Meadors Wins Sacramento’s Famous “Fox Hunt” |
Sacramento, Calif. - Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing team scored their second win of the season Saturday night, taking the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod class at Sacramento Raceway’s famed “Fox Hunt”. When the final score was settled late Saturday night, Meadors had defeated all comers in what turned out to be the quickest and fastest qualified field in the history of West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod competition.
It was an old school victory for the team similar to those of the match race days when teams barnstormed drag strips across the country, blowing in during the morning, qualifying and taking the event win at night. Meadors made his one and only qualifying run Saturday around lunch time, unloading a career best 6.275 @ 231.97 to qualify 4th. Post-run inspection yielded a burned up transmission requiring a lengthy pit thrash prior to opening round eliminations which Meadors survived pedaling his way to a 6.718 victory over a red-lighting Bob Bunker Jr.
Using the alternate transmission which threw off the tune-up completely due to different gear ratios, Meadors yet again escaped with a semi-final victory, pedaling down track to defeat the ’55 Chevy of Jay Deidrich. In the final, lady luck was again riding shotgun in Meadors’ big silver Camaro as fellow finalist Scott Bailey instantly lost traction at the start of the race – giving Meadors an easy victory. He again pedaled all the way down track to post a final round time of a 6.950 @ 187.093 for the second win of his Pro Mod career.
In similar fashion to his last Sacramento Raceway outing back in July, Meadors got the jump on his competition off the line with superior reaction times each elimination round. “The Goodguys Racing Team keeps growing and growing this year,” Meadors said. “We didn’t have the right tune-up on the car after blowing the transmission. But I’m working hard on the ‘Tree and it’s paid off. My crew chief’s Jason Bunker and Jeff Accacian with crew member Andy Fereira worked together the best they could to patch it up and get me to the starting line and we prevailed. In racing you have to catch some lucky breaks and today was ours. I’m really proud of the team for our career best ET and speed. We are gonna be tough the rest of the year.”

Meadors Speeds to Semi Finals in Sacramento - June 29, 2009 |
Sacramento, CA – It was a scorcher in Sacramento last weekend for freshman Pro Mod racer Marc Meadors and the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro. Making his return to competition with the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod Association, Meadors and the Goodguys Racing crew were looking for their second win of the season at the 33rd annual Nitro Night of Fire and had to roll the dice to do it.
After making a motor-wounding 6.37 @223 test run Friday, the team missed Saturday’s opening round of qualifying leaving them with a one-shot, qualify-or-go-home run on Saturday afternoon in 107 degree heat! The silver Camaro streaked to a 6.354 @ 227.9 to grab the 3rd position in the 8-car program.
In Saturday evening’s eliminations, a confident Meadors dispatched the nitrous-breathing Corvette of the Ballance bros .6.42 @ 226 to a 6.52 @ 213. Up next was Rod Burbage’s big cubic inch screw-blown ’58 Corvette in a semi final showdown. With the mercury reading 105 degrees and the altitude at a vexing 3,100 feet, Meadors left too early knowing he had to get out first in order to overcome the number 1 qualifier. Burbage’s ‘Vette took the win 6.25 @ 231.57 to Meadors 6.315 @ 229.24 – a career best run for the Goodguys racing team.
With a solid semi-final showing, a career best run in less than ideal conditions and a win at the Super Chevy Show in Fontana earlier this season, it’s safe to say the Goodguys Racing Team has officially arrived in the Pro Mod ranks. “I’m proud of this team,” Meadors beamed. “We run a small cubic inch motor and we’ve only been racing together as a team for about 6 months now. Crew chief Jason Bunker along with Jeff Accacian, ‘Six Pound’ Billy Fereira and Andy Fereira do an awesome job out there. They do it for the love of the thrash. We also had camera man Ken Stanfel with Xtreme Performance Images, www.gocyberspeed.com was with us last weekend who shot some amazing in-car footage and took some great pictures. We are going to be heard from a lot this summer and fall.” Many thanks for all the sponsors that help this team Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, Red Line Oil and Comp Cams.
Up next for the Goodguys Racing ’69 Camaro is the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods race at the Fox Hunt in Sacramento August 14 & 15.
